Drones in security service

Are drones revolutionizing the security industry?

While security robots that drive and move through the area do not yet enjoy mass distribution, the sight of drones and their use in the security sector has supposedly long since become standard. A number of different players in the security market have already made statements about the importance of these flying machines.

The establishment of innovative technology does not always depend only on its new, exciting features. Acceptance, cost/benefit comparison, uncomplicated handling and, of course, legal principles have just as great an influence. The skepticism towards autonomous robotic systems, which is particularly prevalent in Europe, also plays no small role.

The Marketplace Safety, a platform that sees itself as a central point of contact and regularly asks questions on current topics, asked for the interview. The call was answered primarily by experts from various service providers, but also by associations, insurers and the trade union. These, of course, very differentiated points of view provide a very good picture of the current attitude to the subject of drones.

There is agreement on the growing importance of the topic and on the fact that drones provide the perfect technical support in a wide range of situations. However, while the bureaucratic hurdles are rightly criticized on the one hand, there are also warnings against the uncontrolled use of the technology. There is not so much a lack of understanding for robotic systems and the desire to use them in projects, but we could not (yet) read out the willingness to be proactive. The price structure and practical applicability also seem to still pose obstacles.

We are still a long way from a revolution in 2023, but one thing is certain: drones will no longer disappear from the minds of security experts and will continue to circle the skies as a matter of course in the future.
