Drones are not alone in the airspace. While aircraft are encountered primarily near airports and in the defined flight corridors, contact with helicopters (transport, press, rescue operations, police, etc.) is also possible at any time in urban areas. In addition, VTOL, i.e. vertical take-off and landing, e.g. air cabs, can significantly increase the number of potential take-off and landing areas.
The EU's air traffic control authority (EASA) has therefore defined various zones for the lower airspace, which are color-coded to determine whether, who or under what circumstances professional drone operations may take place in them. Registration takes place via a central server, which compares all data, such as purpose of use, drone model and weight, planned flight duration and altitude with the U-spaces and then issues approvals, conditions to be fulfilled or cancellations within a few hours. During the operation, all flying objects are thus known, recorded and safe flight operations do not pose a problem, even with many road users.
Advantage for drone operators: Fast, transparent approvals + little effort. The EASA landing page offers all necessary recommendations for action and in-depth information.
