Robotics is becoming increasingly versatile in many areas – whether on construction sites, carrying boxes or monitoring airports. In China, robots are now also being used in firefighting operations: in the coastal city of Qingdao, the fire brigade has recently started testing two specially equipped Unitree B2 robots to assist with fires.
Robot dog with water hose: high-tech support for the fire brigade
The Unitree B2 robot dog can extinguish fires with a water pressure of 40 litres per second and has a range of up to 60 metres. Thanks to its climbing ability, it can master inclines of up to 45 degrees and overcome steps with a height of up to 40 centimetres. When stationary, it can carry loads of up to 120 kilograms, and up to 40 kilograms when in motion. Without additional load, it can run for over five hours.
When high-tech meets the fire brigade
The tasks of the fire brigade will remain an indispensable part of human responsibility in the future. However, modern technologies such as Unitree's robot dog can significantly reduce the workload of emergency services – especially in dangerous or difficult-to-access situations. The near future will show how reliable and effective this high-tech support actually is in everyday firefighting.
