The Cologne-based company Igus now wants to change that: Iggy Rob is set to be launched as an affordable humanoid robot that can be used for a wide range of applications thanks to its two arms and a stable, wheel-driven base.
Operates for up to 8 hours
The humanoid robot Iggy Rob is approximately 1.70 metres tall and can operate for 8 hours without needing to recharge its battery. It can greet its colleagues with a smile and has two ReBeL Cobot arms and two bionic hands. It is controlled via the in-house igus Robot Control system. It also has CE certification.
Basics of AMR
To operate Iggy Rob, you need the base, which is supplied by AMR ReBeL Move. The mobile platform is extremely stable thanks to its three-point bearing. Igus deliberately decided not to use legs, as some infrastructures for AMRs are already well advanced in many factories. The load capacity here is 50 kg to 100 kg. Thanks to its versatility, the Iggy robot can even be used in reception areas, take on transport tasks and clear cutlery in the canteen.
Joint development: ‘Test first, then invest’
Igus relies on close cooperation with its customers for the development of the Iggy Rob. The manufacturer offers a special programme that enables interested parties to test potential applications in a realistic environment before committing to financing. As part of this programme, Igus experts carry out application tests on a real robot system. If the tests are successful, the Iggy Rob can be purchased at a relatively low price of 47,999 euros. ‘Until now, humanoid robots were sometimes three to four times as expensive,’ explains Alexander Mühlens, head of the Low-Cost Automation division at Igus.
