Apple's deep integration of ChatGPT into its systems marks a significant step forward in AI accessibility. At WWDC 2024, alongside their proprietary Apple Intelligence, Apple announced the inclusion of ChatGPT across all devices. Users will be able to connect to their OpenAI accounts and select ChatGPT as their model.

While Apple Intelligence serves as the core of generative AI functions in iOS 18, users will also have the option to sign in with their OpenAI accounts and utilize ChatGPT models. Once connected, users can select ChatGPT as their model, leveraging it within Siri and as part of the new intelligent writing tools and other features in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

This integration expands the capabilities of Apple Intelligence, seamlessly integrated into the operating system. For instance, if Siri encounters a question it cannot answer, it may defer to ChatGPT to respond.

Users can utilize the standard free quotas for ChatGPT usage or link their paid subscriptions to access ChatGPT Plus benefits. Apple hinted at partnerships with other AI model providers to offer users more options in the future. While ChatGPT from OpenAI will initially be the sole option, users can anticipate the inclusion of Google Gemini and other models down the line.
